Do you want to build a snowman? Color Matching Painting People Your children are so good at keeping out classroom clean. They are proud of their classroom and work hard to keep it nice. Last week we talked a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. We examined a brown egg and a white egg and how they were alike and different. Then we cracked them open to realize that even thought they look different on the outside they are the same inside. We discussed how people are the same that sometimes they may look different on the outside but we are all the same inside and we all have feelings. God made us all unique and he wants us to be kind to everyone. We ready Humpty Dumpty and did an experiment to see what items would have kept Humpty from cracking. We realized that if bubble wrap, a stuffed frog, a canvas bag and a cardboard box had been behind the wall Humpty Dumpty would not have cracked. Then we tried him on the table and poor Humpty cracked his head. Throwing horseshoes Making Hurricanes Feeding the snowman with letters. Letter writing on chalk boards and erasing with a paintbrush and water Hot potato and letter " H" writing The Hand Dance Riding horsey on letter "H" Heart tracing and painting "H" Bingo Having fun with a homemade hovercraft
Rolling around in the new piles of mulch on the playground is so much fun. Patterning with penguins, polar bears, ice cubes and snowflakes. Finger painting with ketchup I love it when they are so enthralled in a book.
Yesterday we had a Critterville Presentation from John Ramirez. Some of the animals they encountered were a blue- tongued skink, a milk snake, a tarantula and a boa constrictor. They were fascinated with these creatures and very brave as I was incredibly creeped out and not all that excited to touch any of these critters. Reproducing Q-tip designs Exploring on the light table with ice, polar bears and penguins Balancing kisses while walking on letter "K" Determining most and least and counting kisses Weighing penguins and kisses They predicted that a kiss would sink instead of float and they were absolutely right. Of course we had to finish our activities on kisses with a taste test. It was close but caramel won.
Lacing beads through the tunnels A light table is great for science activities to demonstrate how light changes things or makes them clearer. The ladybug and chickadee classes loaned us their light table this week to enjoy and it was a hit. Mitten Matching Letter "K" tracing and key rubbings Geoboard designs Today in Life Skills they made fun faces with healthy vegetables and rice cakes. Um, Um good We began our study on penguins. They are balancing an egg on their feel like penguins do until it hatches. They found it was harder than they thought. We did an experiment to see how penguins can stay warm in icy cold water. Painting with watercolor on ice Penguins like to slide on the ice and they predicted what kind of other things could slide on the ice.
These teddy bears were treated like royalty today! We read this book today and did a jam/jelly tasting. Bear number bingo Berry Painting Holding a hula hoop with one finger in muscle movement Hula Hoop Rolling
Cutting out the letter "J" with jagged scissors to glue into their journals Bear Sorting Name Writing Measuring with bears Serious Construction Under Way
Our first day back was wonderful. This week we are learning about bears. Below is a picture gallery of documentation about our day. Pinning the letter J They really enjoyed this activity. They had to tell me the number and look behind it to find the bears underwear. We predicted what would happen if we put a gummy bear in water, salt water and vinegar. Then we did some math and they told me which jar had the most and the least gummy bears. Then they guessed about how many were in each jar and we counted them. Next they sorted and graphed their gummy bears. Finally they created their own bears.
