I hope you all enjoyed the fall parade and party as much as I did. The costumes were so much fun. It was such a busy day and here are the few pictures I was able to snap. Trick or Treat? Saying hi to Olaf (AKA: Mrs. Miriam) That was such a fun and yummy lunch. Thank you Mrs. C for all your hard work. The games were super fun as well. We had pumpkin painting and ghost bowling. Thank you Mrs. M for all your hard work putting those activities together. Simply gorgeous "We're digging for treasure."

This week we are having some fun with happy monsters. We are learning that monsters are not real but they are fun. We sang songs about them, danced, read about them, did some math and science and even art all around this fun theme. Happy Play-Doh Monsters They had to count the monsters and place a clip on that number We read and acted out Go Away, Big Green Monster. They wanted me to read it over and over again. Retelling the story with a friend Then we did the monster mash. Songs we sang Monster Math Monster Science with a balloon, vinegar, baking soda and a bottle Cutting pumpkin paper and covering P's in our journals Blowing monsters with straws Feeding letters to the monster Decorating our treat bags!
Counting the lines on the pumpkin Measuring how tall the pumpkin is with unifix cubes They made predictions about whether the pumpkin would float or not and then we tested it. We made pour paintings on a block of wood today! They turned out awesome! It was so cool to watch the colors blend and ooze together. We made pumpkin pudding Sorting cards by number We drew what we thought our pumpkin should look like if we carved it, for our journals. We used our listening ears during story time. I know they must think I'm nuts but it sure got their attention.
It's pumpkin week! This is my favorite time of year. Yesterday we: read a book about the life cycle of a pumpkin, sang five little pumpkins, did a math/pumpkin ball toss, played a jack-o-lantern math game and an open ended absorption art activity. Fishing for letters They had to roll the die and add the part from a list I couldn't believe how much they enjoyed raking leaves. Maybe I'll try sweeping next time......lol
Sorting letters by color Number recognition/one-to-one correspondence/counting We sang five little bats. They were actually removing a bat with every verse. This is simple subtraction and they were great at it. We did estimation and non standard measuring with different items today. Coffee filter bats A little sleeping bat in a cave Bat Bingo Just hanging around "Look Mrs. April I made a rocket ship." Using the parachute in motor skills Peek-a-boo
Hello families! This week we are learning about bats! They really are fascinating creatures. We read some bat facts, sang the song Bippity, Boppity Bat (a great rhyming activity), did an experiment about echolocation and had a lovely visit from the fire department. It was so fun to explore the fire truck and talk to the firefighters. They filled, dumped and poured bats in and out of these different containers/bags. They loved this activity. It's a great fine motor activity. Patterning Horizontal cutting at the easel on aluminum foil Who remembers these? Lite Brite's are the best. Look at the fine motor skills involved in pushing the pegs through the paper. So we placed a googly eye in a bowl of water. We waited until the water was perfectly still and we touched the water. We observed how the waves bounced off the googly eye and compared that to how bats bounce the sound waves off of objects so they can see in the dark and catch insects. Ask them about echolocation and see if they remember. A walk through the fire truck I wouldn't be surprised if this little guy becomes a firefighter when he grows up! Here are the results of our Creepy/Cute bat graph
We finished out the week with spiders. We played a spider math game, did a spider cutting activity, traced spider webs with glue, read the book Little Miss Spider and more. Enjoy! Cutting is intense work They had to trace the spider web lines with glue. This was a little difficult for some as it takes a great deal of hand muscle strength. The expectation is to do your best and they always rise to the challenge. This is how we build those muscles in the hands. They had to erase the letter "S" with a Q-tip and water We threw pretend flies at our fake spider web to see if they would stick. I try to do a lot of gross motor activities in the classroom as well. We graphed whether they are afraid of spiders or not This is the math game we played. They had to draw out an orange or black spider and then color one spider the color they drew out. Then we counted each color and determined which one was the most. They really enjoyed this book Teamwork with friends A little hoops on the playground Hopscotch on our way out of motor skills
Hola! I apologize that I don't always post on the same day! I am in a season of very busy at home right now. I could start sending out a remind when it's up if you'd like. Please respond with a comment if that's helpful verses checking back numerous times. So we were scheduled to marble paint on Friday but they seemed so excited when I mentioned it that I decided to go ahead and do it yesterday. We have plenty more to do tomorrow. This week is all about spiders. EEEK! We discussed the anatomy of a spider, read and acted out the Itsy Bitsy Spider, danced to a spider song, did an experiment, did a spider math activity and more. I can't believe how much we get done in a short time. Your kiddos are amazing! Scooping spider eggs (wink) They had to place the correct number of spider straws in the container. Feeding spiders to froggie So they had a piece of double sided tape on the plate. I had them touch it and they all agreed it is sticky like a spider's web. Then I asked them why the spider doesn't stick to his own web. They have hairs on their feet that have oil, which keeps him from sticking. So of course we rubbed oil across the tape and realized that it wasn't sticky anymore. Then we sprinkled some baking soda on the tape. This represented the web when it is covered in dust. It is no longer sticky and bugs are less likely to get stuck. They had fun with this. Rolling webs with pizza cutters Marble Painting Positional word song in music with Mrs. Rachel Itsy Bitsy Spider felt board We talked about all these different spiders. They weren't thrilled about the jumping spider! Me neither!
Good afternoon! I hope you all had a great weekend! We finished up our week about apples. We read Apple Trouble (twice since they loved it so much), made predictions about whether an apple would float or sink and tested it, sang and danced to apple songs, picked some apples and of course made some apple turnovers. Picking and sorting apples They had to place the green rings in numerical order (1-10) Lacing an apple We talked about what a recipe is and why we need it. Then we started our apple turnovers. First we buttered the bread. Then we added some cinnamon. Next we placed the apple on the end and rolled it up. After that of course we placed them in the oven and baked them for about 12 minutes. Last we enjoyed our yummy treats! The smell was the best! We had our first show and tell in a box. They did a fantastic job! Jumping with Mrs. Heidi in motor skills.
