We had such a fun and busy day. It's Rodeo Week and we had a guest visitor (A Trick Roper) and Fiesta Farms brought out some animals for us to admire. We also celebrated a sweet girl's birthday today! If that wasn't enough we're studying artists this week and we learned about Michelangelo. Here are some pictures of our day! Here is the song we learned today that I wrote to the tune of Father Abraham. Then we painted our own masterpieces under the tables similar to Michelangelo when he painted the Sistine Chapel. We read Mouse Paint and learned about mixing colors together to make new colors. Straw cutting Patterning We also had a Chinese restaurant in our classroom today and they loved it. Happy Birthday S! Thanks for the yummy treats!

Hi families! Let me start by apologizing for not updating on Wednesday! My goal is to always post before the next class session. I have had something every night this week that has kept me out late. I'm not making excuses it's just been hectic. So I hope you're not too upset with me. So I'm sure you've heard that our focus was dental health this week. I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I use to be a dental assistant in the Air Force in my much younger years (LOL). This is one of my favorite units to do with them and I'm passionate about taking care of teeth. I will post pictures from Wednesday and Friday. Enjoy! Sorting flossers Each tube had a number on it and they had to place that many toothbrushes inside. They now know that they each have twenty teeth (ten on top and ten on bottom). We rolled out play-do to resemble gums and placed ten teeth (corn kernels) on top and ten on bottom. This is a great fine motor as well as a math activity. Painting with floss (we use the weirdest things to do art with) Sorting good things and bad things for our teeth in our journals This is the song we sang this week Mrs. Miriam played tooth fairy. She would hide a dollar bill under a letter pillow and they took turns guessing which letter it was under. They informed me "Mrs. April those are not pillows they are just pieces of paper with letters on them". They crack me up. They did however love it when they were the one that found the dollar bill. We used shaving cream, toothbrushes and Legos to practice brushing teeth. We talked about how important it is to brush every part of every tooth. Then we used large Legos, play-do (food trapped between teeth) and floss to practice flossing. We talked about how important it is to capture the food that gets trapped between the teeth that the toothbrush can't get to. We even got to see some pictures of our cool friend S in the dental chair. Sorting upper and lowercase letters Hula hoop fun in motor skills today
Hi there! Our Valentine's party was just lovely. I especially loved watching them pin on my lips. Thank you so much parents for making these class parties so special for these amazing little frogs. I also want to thank all of you for the sweet treats. It was so kind of you all to think of me and I felt very loved. Here are some pictures of our day. Enjoying the yummy cupcakes! Sorting Valentine's Pinning the lips on Mrs. April Making Valentine's Filling our hearts with purple and pink squares that they cut for their journals Just chillin on the playground Sometimes it's just nice to lay down and soak up the sun and think Making our craft
Mailing Valentine's They love taking pictures! I thought I would take a picture of them taking pictures of each other. LOL Decorating our Valentine treat bags Today we counted, sorted, stacked, patterned and of course ate some Conversation Hearts. We read I Love You So Much. Please ignore that terrible picture of me. I've learned to let that go on here in order to give you a full concept of our days. LOL We played musical hearts (similar to musical chairs). When the music stopped they had to grab a letter and then I would ask the person holding the p (s,k,etc) to hold it up. They enjoyed this game as we played it to the song Accidentally In Love. Who doesn't love that song? Removing the confetti from the contact paper. This is much harder than it looks. This is a great pencil grasp activity.
Last Wednesday we did activities based around feelings! We charted our feelings at the beginning of the day and then at the end, danced to "If You're Happy and You Know It", made raisins do a happy dance (science), read a book about feelings, sorted happy and sad faces in out journals and more. ENJOY! By the end of the day most were happy and three were tired. LOL In preschool our feelings change minute by minute. We discussed that it's ok to feel mad or frustrated and ways to handle that anger. Making emotions on mats with play-doh We placed raisins in water and then in 7UP. The raisins danced in the 7UP and not in the water. They concluded that the difference was the bubbles and that is what made them dance. They are already using the scientific method when experimenting. You already know this but they are so brilliant! Art is a great way to express ourselves (emotions). Today we used ice and powdered tempera paint. Happy/Sad sort in our journals They had to find the friend that had the matching half of their face. Cutting different materials in the sensory tub
Today they made snowflake patterns in their journals. Take notice of how tiny those snowflakes are and the fine motor skill it requires to place those delicate little flakes on the page. This is all preparing them for writing. Not to mention math with patterning and eye-hand coordination. Every single thing we do has been planned out to get the maximum benefit. Eye–hand coordination (also known as hand–eye coordination) is the coordinated control of eye movement with hand movement, and the processing of visual input to guide reaching and grasping along with the use of proprioception of the hands to guide the eyes. They lined the numbers with sparkly blue snowflakes. Isn't this just the prettiest seven you have ever seen? Good job G.T! Transferring snowballs (ok Styrofoam) and snowflakes with tongs. These are both great fine motor activities. Drawing at the writing center I couldn't resist posting this picture. Look at that sweet face!
