We finished off our unit on apples. We talked about a recipe and followed the directions while making our own applesauce. They did a great job! I had the apples already cut up because we were limited on time. Then we added sugar. Next we added water. Then a little cinnamon. Last we had to stir it good. Well of course we had to eat it after smelling it all day! Most of them agreed that it was delicious. We read The Apple Pie Tree. We celebrated our first birthday! Happy Birthday G!

This week is all about apples. I love this time of year. We started with the book Ten Apples on Top, sang a song about apples and bananas, predicted if they would float, compared apples and bananas, balanced an apple on our head, talked about the life cycle, patterned with apples, stamped with apples, did a math counting activity with apples and numerous fine motor activities that were apple related. We had a blast! Here is the evidence. Sorting We thought one apple was hard enough. We couldn't figure out how the animals from the story could balance ten. Some used their God given resources. They were surprised to see that both floated. At first they had only bananas as yellow because we only had a red apple. Once we discussed it and gave it thought they realized that there are yellow apples and that they have also seen green bananas at HEB. I love doing science with them and accessing higher level thinking skills. Stamping Isn't this gorgeous? Reenacting the story ![]() Notice the use of both hands and the fine motor skills involved in picking up those tiny pom-poms and pushing them through those miniscule holes. Apple Math Zoo Man came today! They loved it. Ask them about some of the animals they met.
Rainbow tracing the number zero in their journals Tracing hands in the writing center They are already making friends They are never to young to start learning to type. At this age, half of them are probably faster at typing than me. I'm only half kidding! They are learning to pour their own water. I am really big on teaching them independence. This is why I ask that THEY: bring their frog in to me in the morning, get their own lunch boxes at lunch, clean up the classroom, throw their own lunch and snack trash away, etc. I realize as parents it's habit to do for them and we enjoy doing for them. Trust me I know with my two boys, but they are so capable. We read this book today and talked about the parts of the book. This gave me quite a chuckle today! If you could only have seen some of their faces when I asked them if they would kiss a frog. We talked about which had the most and which had the least. This was a masterpiece created by O and T. There was a lot of thought put into making it. They were so proud and gave me permission to take a picture of it.
Well here is our first posting of the year! I really hope you enjoy this blog. It's just for you! This week we are learning all about frogs. Today we read a book about the life cycle of the frog, sang about a frog named Tiny Tim, counted frogs, sorted frogs, weighed them and finger painted with pistachio pudding with google eyes that looked an awful lot like frog spawn. Most of them enjoyed that sensory experience and a few of them not so much! LOL Please feel free to comment! Just please remember not to use names but use the first initial of their first name.
