This week we are learning about spiders and reviewing the letters B,M and F. Today we went banana crazy! We sang about them, played hot banana, measured with them, peeled, sliced, made B's with them, stacked them and of course we had to eat them when we were done. Is there any surprise that some of them were Spiderman spinning webs? Some captured those eight legged creatures in the sensory tub. Painting never gets old in our classroom.

Who said forks are just for eating? Once they caught a fish they would tell me the shape or number on it. I can tell some of them have been fishing before. One by one they would place the beads in the holes using tongs. These Fantastic Frogs had to use their hand muscles to get these frogs to their lily pads.
Today we read Five Little Speckled Frogs, sang the song and stamped five speckled frogs in our journals. Reenacting the story with flannel pieces They were amazing at balancing a marble on the rim of these wooden trays. Look at how she holds all the pieces while still managing to work the puzzle. Did you know that picture books strengthen visual thinking skills? They help children connect what they see with how they reason, linking concepts with words. We counted and sorted the objects in their boxes together and then they had some time to do individual practice at the end of the day!
Building strong hands! An artist hard at work! We had two fire fighters in our classroom today! I sure hope they saved that baby! Letter "F" bean bag fish toss Making names with play-doh!
Show and Tell time for the letter M. They really are intrigued by what their friends are hiding in those boxes. I love their confidence when they give clues about their items. Great job helping them parents! They found a new way to use the box! "I see you Mrs. April." "Look he can balance on my arm." "Mrs. April I'm nursing my babies." Today we did math with spiders! Movement with Mrs. Amy
They worked great as a team today! We worked on covering our letter M with stickers and tipping the box just right to get the ball to fall in the hole. They did great at communicating with each other! Here they are at Music with Mrs. Rachel. This is a birthday cake made out of blocks. Doesn't it look yummy? We celebrated our first birthday today! Happy Birthday K! Our little birthday tree finally has an ornament on it!
Story dictation is when a child tells a story and an adult writes down word for word exactly what the child said to them. They do not alter the words to correct spelling or grammar. The importance of story dictation is to foster children's language, literacy, social and emotional development. I try to do this on a daily basis as I want your children to know that their words are important and meaningful. I read these stories to the whole class at the end of the day. Yesterday one of them came to me and asked to tell a story. Here it is word for word.
"Once upon a time there was a little fairy. Her name was Lisa. It went to a castle. Then there was a prince. Then them had a kid. What should I call him Ms. April? His name is Asher. Then the end!" We began our bubble activities by reading a big book! Then we laced beads onto our bubble wands! Next we discussed what we needed to make great bubbles and mixed our own solutions (they are great scientists)! Then we sang a song about bubbles and made the most magnificent bubbles! We had a blast!
We've been talking about how important it is to keep our hands clean! The sensory tub is a favorite in the classroom. Children need to use their senses and be engaged in order to have meaningful experiences! They made squares out of tape in their journals! Snack is such a fun time for socializing with your buddies!
