Hello families! This week we are learning about bats! They really are fascinating creatures. We read some bat facts, sang the song Bippity, Boppity Bat (a great rhyming activity), did an experiment about echolocation and had a lovely visit from the fire department. It was so fun to explore the fire truck and talk to the firefighters. They filled, dumped and poured bats in and out of these different containers/bags. They loved this activity. It's a great fine motor activity. Patterning Horizontal cutting at the easel on aluminum foil Who remembers these? Lite Brite's are the best. Look at the fine motor skills involved in pushing the pegs through the paper. So we placed a googly eye in a bowl of water. We waited until the water was perfectly still and we touched the water. We observed how the waves bounced off the googly eye and compared that to how bats bounce the sound waves off of objects so they can see in the dark and catch insects. Ask them about echolocation and see if they remember. A walk through the fire truck I wouldn't be surprised if this little guy becomes a firefighter when he grows up! Here are the results of our Creepy/Cute bat graph
